Carrot Sweet Rice by Soniya Gupta (Member Contributed)

During my childhood I always loved eating sweet rice prepared by my granny. Recently when my dear friend Sonia shared her recipe that too with the twist of carrots, I could not resist my temptation of sharing this with all of you. Thanks Sonia for a lovely recipe....


Preparation Time : 30 Min

Cooking Time : 30 Min

Ingredients : 

  • 1 Bowl Rice
  • 2 Bowl of water
  • 2 Teaspoon Pure ghee
  • 2 Grated carrot (seasonal/orange carrot)
  • 3/4 Bowl of sugar
  • 3-4 Green cardamom powder
  • 2-3 Cloves
  • Dry fruits for decoration

Procedure :
  • Soak rice for 30 minute
  • In a kadai or pan, heat 2 teaspoon of pure ghee. Once the ghee is heated put cloves and cardamom powder. Now add soaked rice and one bowl of water. Once the water start boiling , cover the lid and slow down the flame. Let the water absorb fully.
  • Side by side on the other side take one more bowl of water and add 3/4 bowl of sugar. Heat it in a pan till the sugar melts nicely. Now the sugar syrup is ready
  • Add this syrup to rice and also granted carrot again cover it. Stir the rice after every 5 minute till the syrup is absorbed
  • Sweet rice is ready. Garnish it with some dry fruit and serve hot


Tip :

  • The size of bowl will remain same for rice, water and sugar
  • Cook rice on slow or medium flame
