Shahi Dahi Bhalla

Dahi Bhalla is a simple dish that we oftenly enjoy during our special times with our family and friends. Our meals are incomplete without their presence. This is again a celebration time of festival and my Blog is also getting its 200th post, so to celebrate this occasion I added richness to this dish with kesar (saffron) and dry fruits thus making it simple, easy and exotic.

Prepration Time : 20 Min

Resting Time : 5 to 6 hours

Cooking Time : 20 Min

Ingredients : 



  • 2 Cup White split gram dal (urad dal)
  • 1 kg Curd
  • Oil for frying
  • Saffron Soaked in 1 tablespoon of water
  • 1/2 Teaspoon green cardamom powder
  • 1/2 Tablespoon sugar
For Filling :
  • 1 Tablespoon ginger julienne
  • 2 Tablespoon raisins 
  • 2 Tablespoon chopped cashew nuts
  • 2 Tablespoon chopped pistachio nuts
  • 2 Green chillies chopped
  • 2 Tablespoon fresh coriander chopped
  • 1 Teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • Salt according to taste


Procedure : 
  • First of all soak urad dal in enough water for 5 to 6 hours. Add urad dal to mixer and grind it to a paste make sure that the paste is thick add a pinch of salt while bringing it

  • Soak saffron in water and keep aside

  • Lets prepare the curd and keep a side. Take curd and pass it trough a stainer so that we get a smooth texture. Add sugar, saffron and green cardamom powder to the curd and beat it till you get a smooth consistency 







  • In a bowl add ginger julienne, raisins, cashew nuts, pistachio nuts, green chilly, coriander, salt and roasted cumin powder and mix well





  • Heat oil in a kadai
  • Dip your hands in water take a tablespoon of dal batter in your hand spread it as shown in picture. Add a tablespoon of filling mixture on this batter



  • Now cover the filling mixture with 1/2 tablespoon of batter as shown in picture. It will come like a round shape bhalla. Gently slide this into a hot oil

  • Deep fry bhalla on medium flame till it is properly cooked 


  • In a bowl take warm water add 1 teaspoon of sugar and a 1/2 tea spoon of salt in this water

  • Once your bhalla is fried soak them into this warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. After 15 minutes take out bhalla from warm water and squeeze them

  • Repeat the step with rest of the batter
  • Take a platter add squeezed bhalla on it and pour prepared curd on these bhalla



  • Keep it in refrigerator and serve it chilled



Tip :  

  • You can add dry fruit of your choice
  • Cook bhalla on medium flame so that it is cooked properly
